During the months of July to September, the starlit savannah is well punctuated with 1.5 million white-bearded wildebeest and 250,000 zebra and antelopes that migrate from the Serengeti in Tanzania to the Masai Mara in Kenya in search of food and water, crossing the Mara River on their way. Their migratory routes are determined by the rain patterns; they wander in pursuit of water and fresh grass.
The Big 5 animals and Cats, in particular, thrive during the migration season. The abundance of available prey means that the lions, cheetahs, leopards and the Mara River crocodiles are able to grow strong and produce healthy offspring. The dramatic contrast between life and death to be witnessed during the Great migration safari makes the Migration Season a particularly spectacular time to visit Kenya and Tanzania during your safari in East Africa.
Popular Tanzania and Kenya safari activities include wildlife safari game drives, balloon rides, walking safaris, and local Maasai village visits.
